BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE: Tudor Newsagents in Aldwick is nominated

For the past 23 years Ashvin Patel and his wife Kalpana have been providing people in the Aldwick area with real service with a smile, thanks to their business, Tudor Newsagents in Aldwick Street.

And for their commitment, the shop has been nominated in the best customer service category of the Observer Community Awards.

Ashvin, who is now also in his 12th year as a councillor for Arun District Council representing Pagham and Rose Green, moved to this area from London and says he enjoys working here and playing a role in the community.

“I was in London and it was too busy. There I think people take you for granted, but here people say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’,” he said. “I enjoy serving people – the people here are so lovely and I like to talk to them and ask how they are.”

Ashvin believes it is important for local traders to get involved in the community and get to know the people who live in the area, and through being a councillor he has met many residents.

Although it no longer has the post office, the shop has many regular customers and Ashvin and his family always go the extra mile to make sure people get the best service.

“The main thing is that customers should feel happy when they come in,” added Ashvin.
