Stephen Foster, 30, has rewritten No One But You, an iconic Queen song which paid tribute to Freddie Mercury, to commemorate the life of Callum Chapman.

The 24-year-old Southwater resident died in a collision on the A24 in December.

Stephen, who lives in Billingshurst, said: “He was my best friend for years and I can’t even describe the friendship – it was more like soul mates.

“There’s lots of things you want to be able to say and you never get the chance to.

“It’s probably the toughest thing I have ever had to go through in my life.”

Stephen, a part time store worker and entertainer, said he broke down when Callum’s mum told him of his death.

He added: “He was the kindest most loving, loyal, warm hearted person I ever knew.

“A real character and personality. There was no one else quite like him.

“He just lit up the room and the lives of everybody that knew him.”

Stephen met Callum about six years ago and said the friends lived together for four years.

He added: “[Callum] felt very comfortable and safe around me. We did so much together. There’s just so so many memories.”

“[It was] definitely the best friendship I have ever had. I have never met anyone I have loved and cared about so much.”

Stephen has contacted the managers of Brian May, who wrote the Queen song, and said he hopes to make his version available to download in the future to raise money for charity.

A fundraiser has been launched in memory of Callum and has to date raised more than £2,500. The fund will be used to finish a project car Callum was working on as well as to provide a memorial to the 24-year-old.
