The float, which tours the streets of Bognor Regis every December, will be unable to tour the town without risking drawing big crowds.

A spokesman for the Rotary club said: “We are often told by the people of Bognor that they know ‘Christmas has truly arrived’ when they hear or see the float.

“Unfortunately social distancing regulations mean that this year the float will be unable to tour local streets without risking drawing crowds of people and children.

“We realise that this will be very disappointing for children but the directives are quite clear.

“We have learnt though that we will be able to offer selected static Christmas float displays provided we ensure a two-metre no contact boundary.

“To this end we hope to arrange static displays with Father Christmas and his sleigh playing seasonal music at locations throughout the area.

“We hope this will bring a sense of joy and seasonal fun to December but it must be remembered that our reason for doing this is primarily to raise funds for those who are disadvantaged by hardship.”
