Members of the Friends of Bognor Regis Pier were the first to add their messages towards the target of 5,000 to create a world record.

As reported, the mega card is being compiled by the Friends to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday this month and will be handed in at Buckingham Palace during the official celebrations in June.

Jan Malpas, the Friends’ chairman, said: “Our aim is to give as many children and people the chance to participate in the royal birthday challenge.

“They only need to complete a birthday greeting label.

“All birthday message labels will then transfer to the mega birthday card and we are taking the card to the palace.

“We want to involve every age group and give as many people as possible the opportunity to part of this unique challenge. We want to make this as big as we can.”

Labels, information and paperwork are at the collection sites at the Bognor Regis Observer/Visitor Information Centre at Place St Maur, Unique Promotions in London Road and www.bognorpiertrust.co.uk
