Brilliant Brighton, the organisation which lights up the city, has announced that Thursday, November 14 will see the festive lights flicked on.

Canopies of lights in the Lanes and North Laine and words such as ‘Fairy’, ‘Twinkle’ and ‘Love’ will again light up North Street and Western Road.

However, organisers says details promoting a switch-on event on social media are incorrect.

In a statement, Brilliant Brighton’s CEO Gavin Stewart said: “We always look forward to lighting up the city during the festive period.

“The city’s Christmas lights are a gift to the city’s residents and shoppers from our 517 businesses and we hope that they brighten up the long evenings and make Christmas shopping extra magical!

“We would like to reiterate that for 2019, we’ve decided to not host a switch-on event, but are aware there is an event circulating false information on Facebook.

“We’re doing all we can to get the event removed, however, we’d like to highlight this, as we’d be really disappointed for members of the public to turn up; expecting an event that was never actually planned.”

Brilliant Brighton, is made up of 517 businesses in the city’s Business Improvement District who collectively contribute the £75,000 required each year to light up the city centre.
