Kit Tarka was just 13 days old when he died from the common cold sore virus.

It is thought to kill one newborn baby every week in the UK, yet most of the general public are not aware of the dangers and many doctors do not consider the virus in their diagnosis or only administer treatment when it is too late.

On Sunday, April 26 Kit's brother Red, who is 17 months old, took on the 2.6km challenge raising more than £1,500 for the Kit Tarka Foundation which funds neonatal herpes research and works to raise awareness amongst the general public.

The foundation was established in 2018 by Kit and Red's mother Brighton resident Sarah de Malplaquet.

The small charity has been hit hard by Covid-19 as it looks set to lose £50,000 this year (80 per cent of forecast income) due to cancelled fundraising events.
