Lily Scrase, 11, was born prematurely at 29 weeks alongside her twin sister Mia, weighing just 2lbs 15oz.

Mia battled through septicaemia, low blood sugars, jaundice, chronic lung disease and various other conditions due to her prematurity.

Lily was also poorly due to her prematurity but was the stronger twin.

The twins spent the first eight weeks of their lives being cared for by staff at the Trevor Mann Baby Unit and Special Care Baby Unit at The Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Lily said: “Without their specialist care we probably wouldn’t be alive today.

“I would like to raise some money for them to say a big thank you and help other babies in the future.”

Lily had 11 inches of her hair cut off on Friday, August 14 to donate to the Little Princess Trust, who make wigs for children going through cancer treatment.

She has also raised £370 for The Early Birth Association, which provides help and support for Neonatal Care at the Trevor Mann Baby Unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, and the Special Care Baby Unit at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

Lily and Mia have previously supported the hospital by running the Mid Sussex Marathon weekend wellbeing miles in 2017, running one mile in East Grinstead, Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill, raising about £700.
