Burgess Hill Girls host Christmas party for the elderly

An afternoon of festive entertainment was enjoyed by more than one hundred local senior citizens at Burgess Hill Girls School.

Burgess Hill Girls held a tea party for local senior citizens on Wednesday, November 27, organised in partnership with Burgess Hill Town Council.

Pupils from the school greeted the guests on arrival, hanging up their coats, directing them to their tables, taking their orders and serving them tea.

Josie Davies, aged 69 from Burgess Hill, said: “The food was delicious and the entertainment was very professional and performed by such talented young people.

"We were most impressed by the polite attentiveness of the students who served and looked after us.”

Once everyone was seated they were entertained with a quiz and a variety of performances from the girls including modern dance, Christmas readings, piano and guitar solos.

Entertainment continued with Christmas carols sung by students, enjoyed and joined in by the guests.

Year 11 pupils had organised a raffle, with prizes donated by pupils and teachers at Burgess Hill Girls, and leaving gifts of Christmas cards and decorations made by Year 7 students were given out.

Liz Laybourn, headteacher of Burgess Hill Girls, said: “We love to host the Senior Citizens’ Christmas party.

"Our guests have done so much for the local community over the years it is a wonderful opportunity for us to give a little back.”
