Burgess Hill school teaches railway safety

London Meed Primary School, in Chanctonbury Road, has been teaching pupils in year-six about how to stay safe on railways throughout the year.

They were asked to produce a piece of writing around a photo of a railway.

Katherine Brayne, data and communications manager for the school, said: “We are so proud of Charlie, who has written a very moving poem.”

In his poem called ‘The Old Railroad’, Charlie, 11, wrote that it’s a ‘dangerous place to be’, with ‘many risks all in one place’.

Sussex Newspapers shared the news last week that children were seen ‘messing about’ and lying down on a railway crossing near Horsham.

This comes as rail chiefs warn people not to trespass after the number of incidents surged 40 per cent after South East London, Surrey and Sussex emerged from the first national lockdown last year.
