Sophie’s mother, Teresa Mamoany, said that the event was to support the hospice after it cared for her brother; who passed away in February 2017.

“He had just a short illness (five weeks), the last 12 days of which he spent in the hospice,” she said.

Teresa said she was grateful for the support given by the hospice during Steve’s illness.

“As a family we were overwhelmed by the support the care and treatment given by all those working at the hospice.

“Sophie was aware that the early part of the year for the last three years is always full of sadness as we recall that awful year.

“She wanted to do something to distract us this year.

“She wanted to do something fun that Steve would have enjoyed.

“He loved ‘80s music and dancing so this is where her idea came from.

“She was overwhelmed at the response from local people and is really pleased with the final total.”

Guests filled the dance floor on the night and enjoyed an ‘80s themed buffet and sweets.

Sophie’s grandmother provided a fundraising boost by organising a raffle at the event.
