The group - known as BigSTAND - is currently opposing plans by developers Our Place to build 2,800 homes on countryside at Adversane.

Now it is also backing opposition to proposals by Riverside Developments to build 83 more houses on land at Duckmoor, Billingshurst, next to a site where 475 houses are currently under construction.

BigSTAND members say that if Horsham District Council allows Riverside Developments to build the extra 83 homes at Billingshurst it will give the ‘green light’ to Our Place to increase the size of the proposed mini town known as Kingswood.

They maintain that any new housing should be focused on brown field sites,

BigSTAND chairman Julian Trumper said: “We are supporting our neighbours in Billingshurst because we must all stand together to oppose the loss of our countryside to unnecessary and inappropriate development.

“We need to stop the developers now before we lose even more of the countryside.

“Just like at Adversane, Duckmoor does not have the infrastructure in place to cope with more development, the roads in the area are too narrow to cope with increased traffic, the development would mean the loss of trees and the Duckmoor site is a nightingale breeding and nesting ground that needs to be protected.”
