Cause of fiery object in the sky above Hastings is revealed

Angela Thomson and her daughter saw the object from their home in Icklesham on Sunday night (June 21).

She described it as ‘falling from the sky’ and added: “My daughter took pictures of something in the sky at around 9.15PM. 

“We are in Icklesham and the picture was taken towards the Brede Valley.” 

Others reported seeing a similar sight. 

People contacted the Observer to explain what it was.

Richard Gatley wrote: “The ‘fiery object’ in your recent article is clearly an aircraft contrail illuminated by evening sunlight.”

Andy Clarke added: “I may not be the only one unused to seeing aeroplanes these days! 

“It was the sunset lighting up the contrail from below of Air Canada from Zurich to Montreal.”
