The South Downs National Park’s contest, which aimed to show the night sky over Sussex at its awe-inspiring best, was the first of its kind attracting 150 entries from amateur photographers showing off favourite natural landscapes.
The three categories focused on different aspects of the night sky, including ‘South Downs Dark Skyscapes’, ‘Living Dark Skies’ and ‘Our Magnificent Moon’. They were judged by three Dan Oakley, National Park Ranger, Graham Bryant, a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and author of ‘Dark Skies’ Tiffany Francis-Baker, with first place in each category winning £150, second place £75 and £50 for third place.
