Charity golf day raises £6,000 for Eastbourne man with life-changing spinal injuries

A fundraising golf day took place at Willingdon Golf Club last Sunday to raise money for popular Sean Foley from Eastbourne.

Sean suffered a broken neck and spinal injuries following a freak trampoline accident in May. Sean is currently in Stoke Mandeville Hospital receiving treatment for his injuries. His partner Daniella and two young children, Darcie, four, and Olivia, three, are desperate to get him home for Christmas. For this to happen many alterations will have to be made to his home in Old Town.

Many friends from Sean’s local pubs the Prince Albert and The Lamb wanted to put on a fundraising event so Terry Magee, the landlord at the Prince Albert and community fundraisers Don and Abby McPhee organised a golf day.

Don said: “It was amazing. We had 84 friends and colleagues taking part. Due to the large amount of people taking part, the golf day finished in complete darkness.”

Many local businesses sponsored and played in the event as well as other businesses providing prizes for the raffle and to auction. The golf day was followed by a barbecue at the Prince Albert with strict coronavirus rules in place. The food was generously provided free of charge by Heath Butchers in Old Town.

Eastbourne mayor Steve Wallis and councillor Margaret Bannister came along to do the presentation. The event was sponsored by many businesses including G and C builders, Stephen Rimmer, BM Hepburn Ltd, CP Jones plumbing, Clear space logs, RJ plastering and Element scaffolding, amongst others.

The day was a huge success with just over £6,000 raised for Sean and his family.
