Chemical spill on A22 at Uckfield sparks large emergency response

A number of emergency vehicles were sent to deal with a chemical spill on the A22 at Uckfield today (March 31).

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed crews were called to reports of a chemical spillage from a lorry at 9.15am.

A spokesman said: “We attended the scene by the Budletts Roundabout on the A22 at Uckfield.

Police and ambulance were also in attendance, and the Environment Agency informed.

“Cordons were put in place and a specialist company contacted to help with the clear up.

“As of 11.30am, there were two fires engines and a specialist Technical Rescue Unit at the scene.

“Highways are also supporting dealing with the incident.

“There are no reports of injuries.

“Please avoid the area.”

The A26 is currently closed both ways due to the incident. Inital reports suggested that a vehicle was on fire.

London Road in Maresfield is also closed both ways. Queueing traffic has been reported.
