The group organisers aim to help as many people as possible over Christmas with gifts for children and food hampers.

Petrina Wickens, one of the organisers, said: "Christmas wishes last year did the giving tree in the town centre and had such a fantastic response from the public.

"We are having a toy appeal for children but are also doing mums and dad gifts as many single parents don’t get gifts at Christmas.

In 2013, the group helped twenty families who 'would otherwise not have had many presents on Christmas day', and gave out Christmas dinner hampers to parents 'so they could enjoy a festive dinner like the rest of us do'.

The main drop-off point for gifts is Harris and Hoole coffee shop in Tesco at Hammonds Farm, Jane Murray Way, Burgess Hill, RH15 9QT.

Other collection points include Upmarket22 in Church Road, and 197 Maple Drive.

Donations will be accepted until Friday, December 20.
