The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that all crematoria must close, except for funerals.

This includes Langney Cemetery because it shares one site with Eastbourne Crematorium.

It means people will not be able to visit graves or any memorials within the grounds of the crematorium and cemetery.

Langney Cemetery can only open for burials.

A spokesperson at Eastbourne council, which runs the site, said, “We apologise for the distress this decision will cause but the government consider it necessary during the Covid-19 crisis.”

Ocklynge Cemetery remains open at this time as it does not have a crematorium within its grounds.
