Controlled explosion carried out in Brighton after ‘suspicious packaged’ discovered

A bomb disposal unit has carried out a controlled explosion on an item found in Brighton.

The Explosive Ordance Disposal unit (EOD) was called after a ‘suspicious package’ was found in Dewe Road, Brighton.

A controlled explosion was carried out, police confirmed.

The team is continuing to assess the scene.

Dewe Road remains closed and a surrounding cordon remains in place.

Affected homes and buildings remain evacuated, police said.

However the A70 Lewes Road has now reopened in both directions.

Police apologised for the disruption caused.
