It comes after the Government advised new measures yesterday (Monday, March 16) to curb the spread of the virus, including avoiding gatherings and crowded places.

In a statement on its website, a spokesperson for Depot, run by charity Lewes Community Screen, said: “The latest Government advice is that we should all avoid social activities, such as going to pubs, restaurants, theatres and cinemas.

“We have therefore decided to suspend our film programme and close our cinema screens to the public. This temporary closure takes immediate effect.

“Our box office team are currently contacting customers who have booked for screenings until the end of March to offer refunds. We are really grateful to customers who are choosing instead to support us by offering their ticket price as a donation.”

The cafe at the Pinwell Road venue is set to remain open ‘for the next few days’ from 9am to 5pm.
