The carnival is scheduled to take place on Saturday August 8 and the theme this year is Stories for Children.

Carnival chairman Keith Leech said: “Let’s think positive. We are still intending to go ahead with this year’s carnival. We know things may have to change - but fingers crossed.

“There is plenty to do now, while in isolation, so get those costumes and floats ready.”

The carnival procession comes at the end of Old Town Week, in the first week of August, comprising of a host of events including the popular Pram Race and Crown Lane Bike Race.

The event celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
