Kath Boak, who organised an event for the older community last year, hopes the St George’s Day celebration will help to combat isolation and lift spirits by giving people something to look forward to.

Kath said: ”I already have 50 friends joining in and today I’m sending it to my walking groups, dancing groups, flower arranging group and U3A to involve them too.

“I know it’s really an English celebration, but I think this year it should be for anyone living here and in our English situation together, and to celebrate Great Britain and what we’re all achieving together at this time.”

Kath and her 50 friends taking part are going to wear red and white.

She said: “We’re going to try to have a typical old English dish – some are going for the full English breakfast with Guinness or champagne, some roast beef or steak and kidney pie for lunch or dinner. Another friend has sent out recipes for old traditional puddings.”

Some people are busy making bunting to hang outside their windows.

Kath will be sharing the experience virtually with her friends and they will be sharing photographs of the day.
