This Saturday will see the ‘Take part at home’ event go live, with groups of supporters taking to their static bikes to pedal 100 miles.
And the charity has received an exciting motivational video message from Olympic Ice-Skating Champion, Robin Cousins.
In the message, Robin, a Patron to the charity and previous longstanding Head Judge on ITV‘s Dancing on Ice, wishes participants “A huge Good Luck” and gives words of encouragement for those taking part in the upcoming ‘Starr 100 Challenge’ Event.
Among those taking part on Saturday are Sussex based adventurer and Penny Farthing Club Founder, Neil Laughton, who holds three Guinness World Records for his wacky challenges on Penny Farthings.
Chairman of The Starr Trust, Rob Starr will also be cycling 100 miles himself and said: “Due to nearly all of our fundraising events being cancelled this year, our small charity is facing a loss of around £80,000. We feel compelled to continue to champion the young Starrs our charity supports, who rely heavily on the funding they receive from us, to enable them to continue with their individual development programmes. They need our help now more than ever.”
Rob added “We’re appealing to the local community to get creative and take part at home in something really positive. You don’t need to be able to cycle 100 miles. Set your own personal challenge…100 press ups, 100 kart wheels, 100 minutes running, whatever you decide”.
An appeal launches on Saturday May 9 inviting the local community to join in the action throughout May and take part in this challenge, designed to suit all ages and abilities with the option to choose an individual 100 challenge personal to them.
Participants are asked to try to raise £100 each and all monies raised will go directly into helping children aged between 10-18 who are supported by The Starr Trust charity.
