Dads at Horsham care home celebrated by staff on Father’s Day

The team at a Horsham care home were not going to let essential Covid-19 restrictions make this year’s Fathers Day a damp squib for residents.

All ten fathers at Skylark House – who are currently unable to have their children visit due to the pandemic – received a best dad mug and badge, and the kitchen team baked a celebration chocolate cake.

Customer relations manager Beverly Jordan said: “Everyone was delighted. The dads were very happy to be made a fuss of, their relatives have told us they were touched and delighted that we were able to make the day happy for their fathers, and our team are pleased they have managed to spoil the residents they think of as their own family.

“It really was a very happy Fathers Day.”

To minimise the risk of infecting residents and team members, the home in St Mark’s Lane has been closed to all but the most essential visitors since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, meaning residents have not been able to see their relatives for months.

Beverly said: “We have been doing all we can to keep families in touch via emails, Skype and phone calls, and we have been posting lots of photos on Facebook.

“However, we wanted to ensure that both residents and their relatives didn’t miss out on Father’s Day.”
