Sebby Wingrove, nine, will walk the Steyning Horseshoe six times in one day to raise money for Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS charitable funds.

A pupil at Steyning Primary School, he is described by his father Nick Wingrove as ‘utterly determined’.

Nick said: “He wanted to do this because he wants to make sure children being treated have all they need at the Royal Sussex hospital to have the best treatment and in his words ‘wants the NHS doctors to be able to buy all the best stuff to make them better’.”

They initially set a £250 target but as donations are already close to £600, that has now been increased.

Nick said: “Among all that is going on in the world, my determined youngest son has insisted on embarking on this trek. It is a wonderful thing, what he is doing.

“This is entirely Sebby’s idea and he badgered me for three weeks to help him set up the JustGiving page.”

Sebby said the NHS staff were ‘all heroes for looking after us all’.

He added: “I want to do something special to raise money for the NHS who work so, so hard for me and my family and everyone.

“I will walk the Steyning Horseshoe six times on Sunday, September 13. Each lap of the horseshoe is 3km, so I will walk 18km in a single day. That is a long way for me because I am a kid. Please donate and I promise I will walk it all.”

The money raised will help fund health advancements and innovations to enhance patient care.
