Freda was 16 when she met Bill, who worked on the same farm as her father in Strettington, and they married about two years later at Wanborough Church on June 11, 1960.

They settled in Halnaker, with Bill working on the Goodwood Estate, and had two children, Alison and Martin.

They later moved to Chichester where Bill worked for Pinks.

Freda and Bill now have six grandchildren, Jamie, Nathan, Ryan, Liam, Caitlin and Phoebe, and two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Zachary, with another one on the way in October.

They said tolerance, love and care, and always getting on have been important factors in their long and happy marriage.

The family had planned a big party to celebrate the Freda and Bill’s 60th anniversary, but they will instead be enjoying socially distant visits from family in their Parklands garden throughout the day.
