East Grinstead mayor marks lockdown anniversary with wreath at Mount Noddy

East Grinstead’s mayor John Dabell is marking the anniversary of the first UK lockdown by laying a wreath of daffodils and spring flowers at Mount Noddy cemetery’s memorial wall.

The council is also placing a hand-tied bouquet on the Covid remembrance bench by the Sir Archibald McIndoe memorial statue in front of Sackville College.

The daffodil is the emblem of Marie Curie Cancer Care, which has called for a day of reflection over the ‘lost year’ of 2020.

The charity said that March 23 is a time to collectively think about everyone who has died or suffered during the Covid-19 pandemic.

East Grinstead Town Council unveiled the Covid remembrance bench on February 24, which has become a place for residents to reflect on last year’s events.

The memorial wall at Mount Noddy is a space for any town-wide or national grieving and anyone is welcome to place flowers there.
