Warming up the Homeless, one of the largest homeless charities in the south east, supports the homeless in Eastbourne, Hastings, St Leonards and Bexhill. The charity has seen a spike in vegan homeless people.

Trudy Hampton, CEO for the charity, said, “We’ve had an influx of rough sleepers recently who happen to also be vegan. We as a charity want to support those, whether homeless or not, who have alternative needs such as veganism, vegetarianism or dietary requirements.

“We turned to our vegan community and we’re overwhelmed with help. The help resulted in us opening a vegan foodbank – the first one of its kind – alongside our traditional foodbank and baby bank.”

Trudy also mentioned how hard volunteer Ann Hodgson has worked to help set up the new foodbank.

Trudy said, “The response from vegans on Facebook has been incredible, especially 1066 Vegans and Vegans Hastings, Bexhill and Vegans Eastbourne.

“We are now incorporating vegan food into our hot food repertoire on our daily outreach. We also have vegan clothing in our charity store in Bexhill-On-Sea.
