East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service says it is ready to help keep people stay safe during the current national lockdown that expected to end mid-February.

The Sussex Resilience Forum, which co-ordinates and communicates between health, emergency services, local authorities and other partners, has formally declared a major incident because of the ‘unprecedented pressures’ of Covid on the county.

Despite this, the fire service will continue to respond to 999 calls and help prevent emergencies happening in the first place through its community safety engagement work with businesses and individuals, the service said.

The fire service says it can now carry out special safety checks on the phone to make your home safe from fire.

According to the fire service, staff and community volunteers are checking in on those who may be feeling isolated or alone during Covid and get people help with shopping and other support.

If you care for a loved one there is a one-hour online course that offers fire safety advice and safety tips for the home to make your loved ones safer.
