A statement from the service said, “Gaming has fast become one of the many distractions when cooking in our hectic, modern lifestyles – whether gaming yourself, or parents becoming distracted when trying to get the kids off the Xbox, Switch or games console.

“We want to encourage gamers to #LookWhileYouCook this festive season and put the controller down when cooking. Computer games mixed with cooking can quickly turn into an epic fail in the kitchen.

“Not only could you lose your game but you could lose your home.

“This year we have celebrated our lowest number of accidental fires ever, we wish to improve on this great achievement.”

The service said more than half of accidental fires at home start in the kitchen and many of these fires happen when people are not paying attention or things are left unattended.
