Members at Bay View Golf Club raised £200 for the British Heart Foundation with the support of golf course owners Park Holidays, who sponsored a trophy for a new annual competition, The Memorial Shield. The shield is in memory of former players and friends, and each year the winner will choose which charity will profit from the event. The inaugural winner of the shield was Glenn Mason. Cosy knitted tops to post boxes have been popping up in Brassey Avenue, Hampden Park. Herald photographer Jon Rigby photographed this one, in support of the Poppy Appeal. The tops are thought to have been made by local knitters in a bid to cheer up the community, an idea which has taken off in other parts of the UK.

Eastbourne-based roofing company Clarke Roofing Southern Ltd has been awarded its 12th Gold Safety Award in a row from the National Federation of Roofing Contractors, together with Sussex Heritage Trust awards, for roofing and restoration work at a farmhouse near Newhaven and a property near Alfriston. The farmhouse project was also shortlisted for an NFRC Roofing award in the tiling category at the UK Roofing Awards ceremony in London.
