Eastbourne coronavirus infection rate doubles as new data added

Until Thursday (July 2), Public Health England had only included the data from positive tests carried out in NHS settings, such as labs and hospitals, known as pillar 1.

The new data – known as pillar 2 – includes results of positive tests carried out at home or at drive-through centres.

The combined data shows Eastbourne has recorded 381 positive cases of the virus – an increase of 216 (up 130 per cent) since the new data was included.

The rate of infection in Eastbourne now stands at 369.3 per 100,000 people.

Across East Sussex, cases have risen from 780 to 1,476, the new data reveals.

Here is a full break down of the figures, and how many people have tested positive in each district or borough of the county, including infection rates, and how the new data has affected the results:

– Eastbourne 381 (up 216) – infection rate 369.3

– Hastings 126 (up 68) – infection rate 135.7

– Rother 176 (up 67) – infection rate 184.0

– Lewes 356 (up 139) – infection rate 346.5

– Wealden 437 (up 206) – infection rate 272.8

A total of 2,679 people in West Sussex have tested positive for the virus – an increase of 1,301.

In Brighton and Hove, there have been 764 cases – up 273, Public Health England figures show.

In Kent, 7,551 people have tested positive for Covid-19.
