Harveys, which has a shop at The Crumbles in Sovereign Harbour, has brought in financial experts but its partner Bensons for Beds has been saved.

Two hundred and forty jobs are said to have been lost at Harveys, and a number of its stores could close.

Meanwhile, 2,000 jobs are understood to have been protected after Bensons was sold.

However, national media reports Bensons will still have to close around 50 of its 200 outlets – putting jobs at risk.

It is the latest in a line of national retailers which have collapsed under the strain of the coronavirus crisis.
