Eastbourne hotel to close for six months due to covid

An Eastbourne hotel has announced it is closing for six months due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Cumberland Hotel in Grand Parade said it is temporarily closing from Friday (October 2) until April 2021.

It said in a statement, “Following considerable deliberation regarding the future of the hotel and its survival in this current crisis, the directors have decided the hotel will temporarily close on Friday, October 2, until April 1, 2021.

“We thank you for your understanding and are sorry to disappoint those guests who were due to stay with us over the coming months.

“Elaine and the team look forward to seeing you again, hopefully, in more healthier times, in 2021. Stay safe and well!”

It comes as Eastbourne’s hotel industry has struggled in the aftermath of covid-19 and lockdown.

Job losses were announced earlier this year at the Mansion, Albany, and Boship hotels, run by pier owner Abid Gulzar.
