The blank model elephants provided by Horsham Rotary Club in partnership with Horsham District Council and local traders organisation, Horsham Unlimited, are being snapped up by local businesses, with more than 60 already accounted for.

The project invites organisations to adopt and decorate a model elephant, and partner with a local charity which will benefit from the proceeds raised by the elephant when auctioned.

Elephantastic Charity Partner, Horsham based Born Free Foundation, an international wildlife organisation will also receive funds towards its new appeal to build Europe’s first elephant sanctuary in Tuscany.

The event is set to promote Horsham town and the surrounding areas throughout the summer holidays when the elephants will be placed in a series of ‘safari’ trails in the town centre and nearby countryside, alongside a host of family activities.

This week also saw the launch of the creative Elephantastic branding and logo, designed and donated by Billingshurst-based marketing agency, PMW Communications.

The eye-catching and unique graphics, colours and imagery will be popping up across Horsham in the coming months.

Organisations including Wabi, Hamptons International, PMW Communications, Capitol Theatre, Strada, Spofforths, Cocos Hair Salons & Charity Foundation and three local primary schools are just some of the elephant owners so far.

Horsham Rotary Club are calling on garden centres, hotels, car dealers and similar businesses within ten miles of Horsham town to adopt an elephant and host part of the rural Safari which will be set in the surrounding countryside.

Rotarian John Le Rossignol said: “This is such an exciting time for us in Horsham. We knew the elephants would be popular but we weren’t expecting such a huge response in just the first week.

“I think people really recognise the significance of coming together as a community and creating such a visually powerful and meaningful project that can help the lives of so many people and elephants. There is a real buzz about this campaign and it’s undoubtedly going to bring something quite spectacular to the town this summer.”
