Emergency services responding to major West Sussex house fire

Police and the fire service are responding to a large fire at a pair of houses in West Sussex.

Six fire engines and the aerial ladder platform are at the scene of the blaze in Anscombe Road, Worthing.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire said the blaze broke out of a 'pair of semi-detached houses'.

Firefighters are using two jets, two hose-reels, and four sets of breathing apparatus to tackle the flames.

Three fire engines from Worthing, one from Lancing and two from Littlehampton are in attendance.

Police are at the scene, alongside paramedics. The air ambulance has also been called to attend.

Pictures show heavy smoke in the surrounding area.

The fire service has advised people to keep their windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke in the area.

West Sussex Fire said: "Multiple crews are at a house fire in Anscombe Road, Worthing – please avoid the area.

"There’s a lot of smoke so, if you live nearby, please keep windows closed.

"Six pumps, plus the Aerial Ladder Platform from Worthing in attendance."
