The foodbank, which is run by the Surviving the Streets charity, is based at the Tilekiln Community Centre and will open every Sunday from 10am - 12 noon, providing there is enough donated stock.

The new foodbank was opened by Asda Community Champion Wendy Border on Sunday.

She said: “This has been set up to help struggling families and individuals with food.

“With the help of Asda’s Stop Food Waste and other supermarkets’ donations of food, along with Asda having a donation bin in their store for Surviving the Streets, we are able to provide this service.”

Surviving the Streets was founded in 2017 by brothers James and Peter Robinson to help and support as many homeless and less fortunate people in the area with hot meals, fresh warm clothing, sleeping bags and a good friendly chat.

The charity’s aim is to reduce food waste and support the local community and families.
