Funeral held for firefighter Anthony Knott tragically found dead after going missing in Lewes

The Orpington dad-of-four’s body was recovered from the river earlier this month, three weeks after he went missing. A huge search operation was launched following his disappearance with teams scouring land near Lewes town centre, some of which had been flooded at the time he was last seen. Tributes were paid to him in the wake of his death. A statement issued ahead of the 10.30am funeral read: “Anthony’s family have said that for those who wish to pay their final respects, you are most welcome. He will be honoured with a fire brigade procession. The vintage TL will be leaving Valentine & Turner, 262 High Street, Orpington, BR6 0NB at 10:15am. All are welcome to join other local businesses and community representatives as they line the high street. Anthony’s family wishes to thank everyone for their ongoing love, support, thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.” Mick Symes, joint admin of Lewes Present Facebook group, who organised a candlelight vigil in Lewes for Anthony earlier this month, attended the funeral. He said: "Fireman Anthony Knott has arrived at St Giles Farnborough. His coffin arrived on a vintage fire appliance. It was brought to the church by a bearer party of fire officers accompanied by an honour guard. At the gateway to the church the flags of the fire brigades union and the London fire brigade followed behind the clergy including Ian Beck Chaplain to London fire service the entire walk lined by dozens of serving and for men firemen and colleagues. The coffin was followed by family The service commenced in a church full to the doors with many standing packing the aisles. A most thoughtful and loving tribute has been given, by Lucy Otto for a man who was foremost a father and family man."
