Eastbourne Crematorium, at Hide Hollow, has been without seven members of staff due to them having to self-isolate.

A statement from Eastbourne Borough Council said staff were alerted through the NHS app that they had been in contact with a person who had tested positive for Covid.

The statement said the crematorium’s business continuity plan has been put into place, meaning council officers who are trained and familiar with the operation of the crematorium are now keeping it going until the staff return.

For this to happen work experience and training was carried out during the first lockdown last year, according to the council statement.

The council say all services will go ahead as planned and the crematorium will continue to run as normal. Regular crematorium staff are expected to start returning from January 25.
