A golf club near Horsham has confirmed it is looking at a redevelopment of part of its site.

The owners of Cottesmore Hotel, Golf and Country Club along with development partner A2Dominion are in the early stages of the project, according to general manager Johnny Porter.

He said: “The site is very capable of being redeveloped around the existing hotel and leisure club facilities as it is both well contained within its own landscape and able to serve established communities in Horsham and Crawley.”

The long term future of the golf courses is in ‘serious doubt’ due to the significant downturn in demand over the last decade, Johnny added.

He said: “Roundage numbers have fallen by nearly 50 per cent in that period. Increase in green fees has been non-existent but with a considerable increase in maintainable costs.

“This decline in demand is being experienced throughout the golf industry in the UK.”

Johnny added that the project is a great oppotunity to design a ‘high quality new neighbourhood’ with the hotel and leisure club being the focal point.

He said: “It will also secure the future of the club and provide funding to increase and enhance the facilities.

“Over the coming months with our development partners expertise in such matters we will investigate fully the constraints and opportunities.

“These will then be incorporated into a range of potential design concepts.

“This will enable discussions to take place with both local residents and stakeholders.”
