Hassocks On Show in photos and video: event promotes valuable work of voluntary organisations around West Sussex village

Hundreds of people attended Hassocks On Show at the weekend to see what’s on in this busy Sussex village.

The event took place at Adastra Hall on Saturday, October 26 (10am-3pm), and saw around 30 village groups and societies set up stalls.

Adastra Hall secretary Carolyn Barton said: “This is to showcase all the voluntary organisations in the village, the things they do, how to join and all the good work that they do to make Hassocks the community that it is. We have spaces here for meetings, parties, all sorts of other events, and if you want to know more about us just look online at Adastra Hall.” Visit adastrahall.com.

This old Hassocks event was relaunched in 2023 and the 2024 show was the second its revitalised form. Tea and cakes were provided by the WI. The show promoted activities including: art, U3A, Star Cinema, the Rotary Club, Rock Choir, crafts, piano lessons, croquet, tennis, bingo and the Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

After the event, an Adastra Hall spokesperson on Facebook thanked attendees for coming out in the rain. The spokesperson said: “Our smallholders – some of the clubs and societies that make Hassocks a great place to live – reported lots of interest and new members too! As a team of volunteers running Adastra Hall, we love putting this event on for you. Many thanks to everyone who helped out – leafleters, raffle runners, table setter-uppers, WI cake bakers and coffee makers, the shops that put our posters up and the stall holders who came along to promote their clubs and societies.”
