It was launched by Downlands School, in partnership with Hassocks Parish Council and the Hassocks Community Organisation, to celebrate the national day which takes place on April 22 every year to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

Students were told that their poster needed to raise awareness of the effects of rubbish on our local community, our wildlife and the Earth, remind all how important it is to put litter into a bin or take it home and demonstrate the importance of community at Downlands.

“The entries were judged by members of Hassocks Parish Council and the Hassocks Community Organisation.

“Our four winners, Sophia, Haris, Orla and Olivia, will now have the pleasure of seeing their posters made into signs that will appear around Hassocks and the surrounding areas.

“We are so proud of all our students here at Downlands and do our best to ensure they have a social conscience and understand how important our local community is.
