A Hastings man has been called ‘a beautiful soul’ for fixing an A&E nurse’s car windows for free after they were smashed during a break-in while she worked a 12 hour shift.

Emily Murphy, 24, had just finished work at Worthing Hospital last Thursday when she found that her car windows had been smashed, and her coat and prescription glasses had been stolen.

She had left a note on her windscreen saying she was an NHS nurse so that she could get a free parking space offered to NHS staff at the hospital car park during the coronavirus pandemic.

She shared the ordeal on her Facebook page, where it was spotted by Steve Coward, 50, from Hastings.

Steve, who fits glass part-time, travelled over to Emily’s house in East Preston with glass panels for both her windows and fixed them for free.

Afterwards, Emily said: “I’ve never met this man, and unfortunately due to being at work today I still haven’t met him, however you truly are an angel and a beautiful soul, I can never thank you enough Steve.

“Anything you need I’ll always be indebted to you. I’ll be clapping every Thursday especially for you.”

In response, Steve said: “I heard about it on Facebook and knew with everything nurses and doctors are doing at the NHS it was the least I could do and it had to be for free.”
