The Grade-II listed structure was due to open its gates on Saturday (July 4), the first day many hospitality businesses will reopen to the public in the latest easing of lockdown restrictions.

However, on Wednesday (July 1), a spokesman for the pier said plans have been pushed back due to the weather forecast.

It is now hoped the pier will reopen on Monday, July 6, at 12pm.

A spokesman said Hastings Pier will still have a number of open air facilities, including a beer garden, open air cinema and fairground rides on the new date.

Social distancing measures will also be in place.

The reopening will be carried out by councillor Nigel Sinden, mayor of Hastings, and Tim Wardley, chairman of the National Piers Society.
