The self-funded RSPCA branch rescues and rehomes hundreds of abused, abandoned and unwanted animals every year. It is still working to help animals in need while the cat rehoming centre in Chowns Hill is closed to the public.

The charity's rescuers are classed as key workers but need vital funding to continue to save animals from cruelty and neglect.

Myra Grove, Centre Manager said: “At this time we cannot accept animals from the public, however, we are still looking after existing animals in our care, as well as new animals that are brought in via the Inspectorate who are working on emergency cases only.

“If you have animal welfare concerns, please call our national cruelty line for advice: 0300 1234 999.

“If you have a badly injured stray or wild animal please call your local vet for advice. Please do not attend a vet practice without calling first.

“This is an incredibly difficult time for us across the RSPCA and we appreciate your ongoing support.

“As a self-funded charity, who receives no government funding we rely heavily on public donations. As our charity shop has now closed, we need your help now more than ever to raise vital funds for our centre; any small donation can go a long way."
