The Lions raise money to help local people, and provide resources to help people with projects or events that need assistance.

A spokesman for Haywards Heath Lions Club said: “We are just ordinary people from all walks of life who live in and around Haywards Heath and who want to help those in need within our community.

“What we do is very rewarding and giving of your time is the best way to help others in need within our community.

“Being a member of the Lions has much to offer people from all walks of life.”

Haywards Heath Lions Club has two main fundraisers every year.

One is the swimarathon, which raises money for local groups and charities.

Teams of six swimmers are invited to swim in a 55 minute relay to raise money for a good cause of their own choice and for the Lions’ selected cause.

Previously, teams have included families, schools, guides, Brownies, sports clubs, churches, youth clubs, special needs groups, and lunch clubs.

It also raises money for the group’s chosen beneficiary, which this year is Motor Neurone Disease West Sussex North Branch.

The club has an annual Christmas carol collection, which sees members of the group take Father Christmas around various routes in and around Haywards Heath and Lindfield, collecting money for families in serious need at Christmas.

It also attends fetes and fairs throughout the year raising much needing funds.

Members meet at least once a month for a meal where there is occasionally a speaker, and sometimes they have a fun activity to do.

A spokesman for the club said: “Would you like to find out more about us? Do you have a couple of hours a month to help us in our community service or perhaps even join us on our Father Christmas float or join in with our Swimarathon?

“If you are interested in helping us, especially at Christmas when we hold our major fundraising drive to help those in need then please contact the Lions on 0345 833 5807 or email [email protected].”
