The session forms part of the Gully’s Community Skills programme, which aims to help young people and adults with a disability develop new skills, to assist with the demands and challenges of day-to-day living.

Delivered by Albion in the Community (AITC), the official charity of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club (BHAFC), in partnership with American Express, the programme covers subjects including budgeting, travel and nutrition, and healthy eating.

At the Food and Health session, students participated in interactive activities in the Amex Lounge, with Mari Clark, AITC’s qualified nutritionist, exploring food traffic light labelling, fat and sugar content and the importance of eating the right amount of fruit or vegetables daily.

The teenagers were then tasked with planning and preparing a healthy meal, led by Hannah Churchyard, one of the chefs from the Sodexo Prestige catering team at the stadium. American Express volunteers supported students throughout the activities.

Gully’s Community Skills is part of AITC’s wider Gully’s Days Out membership programme launched in 2011, for local young people and adults with a disability.
