Those taking part in the fun competition – which is open to everyone in the village – will also have their swcarecrows judged by the Rotary club with first place winning £50, second place will receive £30 and third place will win £20.

The challenge which closes on Saturday, August 29, is being held to support Chestnut Tree House.

Peter Hooper, Billingshurst Rotarian, said: “All you have to do is build a scarecrow and put it up in your front garden.

“To qualify you need to make a donation to Chestnut Tree House, the local children’s hospice, whose fund raising has been severely reduced due to the Covid lockdown, and the resulting cancellation of nearly all their charitable fundraising functions.

“Chestnut Tree are now seriously short of funds as a result of Covid so this is an opportunity to help them continue their vital work with children with life shortening conditions and their families.”

To qualify for this competition, message Rotary via Facebook or email [email protected] with your postal address and email address. You will receive confirmation of your entry together with details of the Rotary bank account to which you can make your donation, which will then be forwarded to Chestnut Tree.
