“It’s been a rollercoaster ride over the past few years. We moved to this house a few years ago to look after my mum and this will really help us.

“I’ve been working since I was 16, so over 40 years - this is a life-changing amount of money.”

As well as helping out the family, Philip plans to treat himself to a new telescope as he enjoys stargazing.

He said, “There’s the grand conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn soon. They will come as close together as they ever get, and they appear as a single dot together.

“It’s the first time in 800 years, so this is all great timing.

“It is absolutely a dream come true.”

The other winner decided to remain anonymous.

The prize was part of People’s Postcode Lottery’s special Christmas campaign where one postcode is announced as a £50,000 prize winner every day.

All the players in the lucky postcode win £50,000 for every ticket they hold.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson said, “A huge congratulations to Philip on his win. I think this is the first time someone has told me they’d be buying a telescope with their prize money! I hope the other winner treats themselves to something exciting too.”

According to the lottery group, a minimum of 32 per cent of ticket sales goes directly to charities – players have helped raise more than £600 million so far for thousands of good causes across Britain and internationally.

This draw was promoted by Woodland Trust which has received more than £15.7 million in funding thanks to players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.

The charity creates, protects and restores native woodland across the UK.
