High street bank pays for new kitchen at Hove care home

HSBC donated money to the Archway Project’s Sackville Gardens home so that a new kitchen could be installed.

It is hoped that the new kitchen will provide a welcoming space for residents to socialise, cook and eat together at the residential mental health service.

The Brighton Housing Trust Archway Project runs two care homes in Hove - with the second based at Portland Road - and both have been rated as ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Deputy manager of the Archway Project David Bristowe, said: “Our ethos is that positive well-being can be achieved by making healthy lifestyle choices.

“Meal planning, food shopping, prepping ingredients and cooking are essential for sustaining independence, and residents at Archway are supported by specialist staff members to practice these living skills.

“The new kitchen will provide a more welcoming, homely and therapeutic environment which will ultimately have a hugely positive impact for our residents on their recovery journey.”

The kitchen was fitted as part of an ongoing partnership between HSBC UK and Brighton Housing Trust (BHT).

During the Christmas period, HSBC staff redecorated areas of the care home and helped to cook Christmas dinner.

“Seeing first-hand the great work that BHT do supporting people with mental health needs and combating the issue of homelessness has been very humbling,” said Phil Keighley, head of direct, global trade and receivables finance at HSBC UK.

“I’m pleased that we’ve been able to help, and we’re really looking forward to the further volunteering opportunities we have planned for this year.”
