Joe Killner, 51, said he wanted do something to support the healthcare workers who are the ‘first line of defence’ against coronavirus by spending a 12 hour shift riding his turbo trainer.

He said he will be using virtual indoor cycling app Zwift to complete the challenge and has so far raised more than £500 towards his £850 target.

“This is going to hurt lots but as they say ‘no pain no gain’ and it’s a small sacrifice compared to what all the NHS workers are currently doing.”

Joe praised healthcare workers for their dedication to helping others.

He said: “Working tirelessly and treating patients with grace, their days are typically long. Twelve hours long, and often more.”
